Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 8:49AM CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The newest billboard near the intersection of Boyer Street and the Billy Graham Parkway is getting a lot of attention. The North Carolina Secular Association is sponsoring the message that depicts an American flag with the words "One nation, indivisible.” Noticeably missing: the words "under God."

Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 4:52PM Funny thing. I used to live in this area many years ago. I am actually quite surprised that clear channel would allow this, I hear they are a very christian company.
The station wanted to come interview me and get a comment on what our reaction was to the billboard, both its message and its placement. At first, I thought it was sad that it was placed right above ours (though the United Coalition of Reason representative said that was coincidental). I also thought it was sad that they would be encouraging people to live life without God. However, as I was thinking about what my on-camera response would be (I had about an hour to come up with something to say!), I began to think about it in terms of opportunity rather than conflict.
Seeing this billboard will not make any Christians re-think their position on Christianity. But seeing this billboard may cause someone who is searching and exploring whether there is more to life than this to reflect. Any opportunity to get people thinking about God and the possibility of a life where Jesus Christ is at the center is a good thing. To get people to explore the message of the Gospel and take a closer look at all that a life with Christ offers - love, forgiveness, salvation, grace, peace, community - is good for Christianity and for us here at Central. You can watch the news story here.
Here is a link to the rest of the story which is on the terribly unfortunate named web domain of CUMRodgers.com
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 8:36AM SACRAMENTO, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A Billboard near Sacramento promoting atheism was vandalized by someone depicting atheists as lost, one of the billboard's sponsor said.
The billboard -- one of several posted in the Sacramento area -- originally read: "Are you good without God? Millions are." Someone spray-painted the words "also lost?" beneath "millions are," CBS13 reported Tuesday.
Rachael Harrington of the Sacramento Area Coalition of Reason -- which paid to have the billboards put up -- said the ads are intended to let atheists and agnostics know they are not alone, the TV station said.
"This shows loud and clear just how necessary our message is, because prejudice against people who don't believe in a god remains very real in America," Harrington said.
The organization has asked Clear Channel, the company that owns the billboard, to file a police report. The company offered to replace the sign free of charge, Harrington told the TV station.
Lost eh? Well at least we are in the last season and will have all the answers soon...
